The Monocle - Capitol Hill, DC
Steps from Union Station is a restaurant worth any penny. For drinks if you don't get wine, try the Ginger Manhattan or the Pegu Dan. Regarding the food, the table bread has rosemary in it! Amazing. For the appetizers, try the tuna tartare and avocado, burrata, and scallops. For mains, it's a steak house so... Get the steak!

I had no idea about this restaurant and have been in the DC area for almost half a decade. It is what you call a neighbourhood gem. at the steps of the Capitol Hill, on the surface this steakhouse and seafood restaurant would appear to cater specifically to members of Congress and hill staffers, but don’t let the formally atmosphere fool you. They have a great happy hour and delicious food.
Don’t get caught up eating this, it tastes incredible and you don’t want to get too full before the rest of your plates come. The rosemary makes this fresh bread irresistible.
The burrata and avocado and tuna tartare make the best appetizers, both fresh and light at the same time.
The scallops are perfectly seared - a tight crisp finish and the perfect texture inside. The sauce that accompanies the seafood noms makes them all the more tastier.
Hands down one of the best cocktails I have had in DC, highly recommend trying it. Not too sweet, strong, and smooth. With Orange and rosemary-infused bourbon, Domaine De Canton, and Angostura floater.
